Cellular services suspended in parts of Sindh

KARACHI: 

Mobile phone services were suspended in parts of Sindh on Friday as part of a security plan for 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram.

Services will remain suspended in Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad from 10am till 10pm today. According to a notice issued by the Sindh government, services will remain suspended from 8am till 11:59pm on Saturday and Sunday, 9th and 10th of Muharram respectively.

“In case of any incident/emergency, the cell phone companies may be directed to restore the facility immediately on request of this department,” the notice read.

 

Earlier this month, in preparation for Muharram, the Sindh government declared around 3,046 majalis ‘most sensitive’ and ‘sensitive’ in the province.

 

“Out of 9,269 majalis, 583 have been declared most sensitive, 2,463 sensitive while 6,249 are normal,” said Sindh Inspector-General Allah Dino Khawaja while briefing officials at a security meeting at Chief Minister House.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, was attended by police, Rangers and intelligence and home department officials.
