Road Safety video launched “Save Kids Lives” Shell Pakistan celebrates UN Road Safety Week

According to the UN’s World Health Organization, globally a child dies in a road accident every four minutes with about 95% of these fatalities occurring in middle and low-income countries. To raise awareness about children’s safety on the roads and to encourage relevant stakeholders to take measures to address the issue, UN is commemorating the third Global Road Safety Week from 4-10 May 2015. The official theme of the week is Saving Kids Lives.

To mark the occasion, Shell Pakistan in collaboration with the Traffic Police Karachi held an event at The Citizens Foundation School in Korangi to launch a Road Safety animated learning video for school children. The event featured a live infotainment show produced by the popular online broadcasting channel, Toffee TV. The show included TCF students performing an educational song on road safety and a quiz that tested children about their knowledge on the topic.

Seemi Saad, Head of External Affairs, Shell Pakistan, said, “In Pakistan, many of the children who walk to schools along transport routes and highways put themselves in danger. Creating road safety awareness amongst children will help minimize that risk as well as enable them to positively influence their families and friends. The video is a fun and interactive way to help children learn about basic traffic rules and safety measures and we hope that it helps audience across the country learn more about road safety.”

In 2010, Shell Pakistan began a road safety awareness campaign for students enrolled in schools along major transport routes and highways across the country engaging over 25,000 students so far. Additionally, Shell reaches out to its partners and stakeholders during its global safety day and this year, aims
to engage 20,000 customers across 100 fuel stations. On May 6, 2015, Shell will be celebrating its Global Safety Day and Shell staff will be using the Road Safety video and song to engage children who visit petrol stations.
